Bucky Pizzarelli

John "Bucky" Pizzarelli is a leader of the movement that keeps mainstream and traditional jazz alive. After touring with Vaughan Monroe's dance band and recording RCA in his early years, he joined the staff of NBC in 1952. It was there that he played in the Doc Severinson Band on the Tonight Show. Throughout his career, Pizzarelli has played a seven-string electric guitar. The extra string, which is tuned to A, allows him to play a bass line to his own solos. In the '70s, Pizzarelli issued his first recordings as leader and began reintroducing the world to many historic guitar compositions from the '30s. He is also the father of John Pizzarelli, Jr. His album Swing Live, released on Chesky Records in 2001 was named Stereophile Magazine’s recording of the month in March of 2002.
